AMERICORPS VISTA

Tube City Renaissance Housing & Community Development VISTA

Serve as the Housing and Community Development VISTA with Tube City Renaissance to build capacity for their McKeesport neighborhood revitalization, housing, and urban farming initiatives. 

The Housing & Community Development VISTA with Tube City Renaissance (TCR) will help expand our network to help meet the goals of our low/moderate-income neighborhood projects. Their assignments will include strengthening the housing infrastructure of TCR’s target neighborhoods in McKeesport, building capacity for our Urban Farming Initiative, and continuing the efforts of the previous VISTA on the Waterfront Development. The VISTA will also develop and implement communication, marketing, and branding systems. Through their year of service, the VISTA will learn about community development, nonprofit operations, community outreach, and urban farming while uplifting the community of McKeesport.

Project Love Veteran Development VISTA

Build capacity for the Project Love Coalition to house homeless veterans through a new development project and grow their network and support through communications and outreach system development.  

The Veteran Development VISTA will serve with Project Love Coalition to house homeless veterans by generating resources and volunteers for a mixed-use housing unit development. The VISTA will manage meetings, programs, and outreach efforts that move the housing project forward, including identifying funds and assessing project needs and performance. Additional service activities include building capacity for employment programs, developing a communications strategy to strengthen PLC’s outreach and engagement, and designing a membership recruitment initiative to increase coalition membership and develop leadership. Through their year of service, the VISTA will learn about community development, nonprofit operations, community outreach while improving the lives of veterans in the Pittsburgh area.

Uptown Partners Real Estate and Development VISTA

Build capacity for Uptown Partners of Pittsburgh to revitalize the Hill District neighborhood through research, small business outreach, community engagement, and blight surveying.  

The Uptown Partners Real Estate and Development VISTA will spend their service year on projects that build organizational capacity to carry out development projects other programs that benefit the residents and small business owners of Pittsburgh’s Historic Hill District. This would primarily focus on revitalization of the Commercial corridors, understanding and remediating blight and vacancy, and developing & establishing communications systems. Through this year of service, the VISTA will learn about equitable development and community-based nonprofit operation, and gain research and outreach skills, while getting to know the Hill District neighborhood of Pittsburgh.

Northside Leadership Conference Membership Development VISTA 

Serve alongside the Northside Leadership Conference to support their affordable housing and youth extracurricular programs, while learning the ins and outs of community development. 

The Membership Development VISTA will help equip NSLC to build capacity and provide support to the 15 NSLC member community groups. The VISTA’s service will involve addressing issues faced by these community groups including affordable housing, blight remediation, commercial corridor revitalization, identifying funding sources for neighborhood development projects, and increasing connectivity between NSLC staff and community groups. The VISTA will also develop fundraising systems and networks to build organizational stability, as well as to fund NSLCs youth extracurricular and affordable housing programs. Through their year of service, the VISTA will learn about community development, nonprofit operations, and fundraising while getting to know the many neighborhoods of Pittsburgh’s Northside.
